"Beyond Real" Art Exhibition
Opening Reception and Artists' Talk
Friday, Sept. 3, 7 p.m.

The contrast between surreal photography and photorealistic painting is on view in the exhibition, Beyond Real, featuring the photography of Gale Nobes and the paintings of Adam Tetzlaff.

The exhibition opens Friday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. with a reception and talk by both artists. The show runs through Sat., Oct. 2.

Gale Nobes is a Muskegon-based photographer who has exhibited in solo and group shows extensively in West Michigan, as well as in other parts of the state.  Working digitally in the infrared spectrum, Nobes illuminates the beauty of his subjects in a way that both captures and surpasses reality. He was the first place winner in two statewide photo competitions held at the Newaygo County Council for the Arts Artsplace in Fremont.  His other awards include the Patrick J. O’Leary Purchase Award at the Muskegon Museum of Art’s 2008 West Michigan Regional Show and the Bill Pieri Photography Award at the 2009 Festival of the Arts in Grand Rapids.

Adam Tetzlaff, who resides in Lowell, creates intriguing contradictions.  His landscapes can seem monumental but are painted on small canvases.  He uses paint, but the resulting images have the clarity of a photograph. His subjects are modern, but often have historic references. Tetzlaff has exhibited in galleries and museums in West Michigan.  In addition to awards at juried regional exhibitions, Tetzlaff was included in a group exhibition, 4 Under 40: Emerging Artists of West Michigan
at the Grand Rapids Art Museum in 2005.

The exhibition may be viewed during the Center's business hours, which are Tuesday-Saturday, 12-5:30 p.m.

The Center's in-house Literary Arts Program, Ludington Visiting Writers has lots going on.  Check out their website for updates and information.
